Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is a common condition causing pain in both athletes and non athletes, men and women of all ages and causes pain at the front of the knee.

This condition is also sometimes known as chondromalacia Patella or Patella femoral disorder. However these are synonymous with PFPS or anterior knee pain.

The appropriate treatment option for PFPS depends on the underlying problem.

When is Physiotherapy used to treat Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome?

Physiotherapy is recommended if the problem is due to muscle weakness or gait imbalance. A focused and tailored physiotherapy programme usually helps to resolve the painful symptoms and get you back on track, and we can help you with this.

Do you need surgery for Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome?

Surgery is only indicated if there is a significant mal-tracking or anatomical problem or if after assessment, we find a different cause for the pain such as patella-femoral cartilage damage or osteoarthritis
